A lot of people pass through here every month...
The common thread is inquiry - not a common belief system, not membership in a group and not to follow me or anyone else.
What Ken Wilber taught me is that no depth of spiritual experience can negate our physical and primal drives for power, lust and validation. As primates, we’re wired to seek someone to look up to as well as to be looked up to by others. And that’s true whether we’re experiencing Godhead or Bodhisattva or not. It’s inescapable.
When I was a teen, I was part of a street gang in the ghetto.I experienced so much violence, and brutality from stabbings, rapes, and so much more. After seeing so much inhumanity, I came to the conclusion that there was no God.If there was, then why would he let this happen?I couldn't handle the inhumanity anymore. So I just quit the gang. But as the years have passed, I've thought maybe there is a God. Somewhere inside of me. Why would I see that what I was doing with this street gang was…Continue
Anything a person says about the true intentions of Jesus are pure speculation. He never wrote anything down. NONE of us have any idea what he actually said, what he meant. You can make Jesus into absolutely ANYTHING you want to believe him to be. But that does not make it true. Far too many people have suffered in his name. The…Continue
The newer popular alternatives to religion, that come in the form of new age spirituality such as "The Secret" are just as loony as the promise of heaven for the believer, and a lake of hellfire for the nonbeliever. This ever so intoxicating form of delusion is simply more escapism - a new belief system to impose upon reality, in order to avoid true, honest and courageous self inquiry. In this form of wishful thinking the egoic mind is "meant" to have whatever it visualizes and this gets…Continue
Alright.Everything I know about spirituality and enlightenment, I primarily figured out on my own. Searching the internet, digging around second hand bookstores. And I'm pretty okay with that. The closest thing I had to a spiritual teacher was my philosophy teacher at the local community college. And that's okay too.I can be my own spiritual teacher. But that will only get me so far.I don't sit down and practice zazen everyday. I meditate when I'm eating, exercising, watching my baby nephew…Continue
The recognition that essentially you are the world, that there is no subject/object split, that there is no separation between you and "all that is" - this realization, even at the conceptual level, changes consciousness. The part is not separate from the whole. To know this is to be free of ignorance and to awaken from a profound hallucination. When this realization becomes deeper, becomes more self-evident, consciousness changes again, and expands, and expands, as one lives their life more…Continue
What would you consider spirituality? Is it a sense of self, or perhaps its a sense of our surroundings? I have no opinion in this, I would just like to hear your answers of what you consider to be spirituality.Continue
