Permalink Reply by Andrew on August 8, 2011 at 2:16pm It's surprising to find an optimist in today's environment. We've been experiencing the dumbing down of America for decades. After all, an ignorant electorate is a controllable electorate.
Recently Bill Maher called for the establishment of a bat-shit crazy liberal wing that is every bit as focused and stupid as the bat-shit crazy tea baggers. I've long felt the same way. The left is represented mostly by wimps who are afraid to make waves, who wish to compromise, who do not have the courage of their convictions (assuming they actually have convictions). Example #1: Barack Obama
I hope Mr Bell is correct and that Americans are actually not stupid. However, I see little to support that hypothesis. It looks to me that the American electorate is every bit as stupid as they have shown over the last 40 years. And each election shows them becoming more stupid than the one before. The election of 2010 was the most monumental exhibition of electoral stupidity in my lifetime.
It has to do with the quality of education and the increasing influence of religions that feel threatened by a science that is challenging their fundamentalist belief system. The reaction of the religious right is to vigorously attack science, and the attack appears to be working on the personal level. And by taking control of state governments and now the federal government, the destruction of the American educational system is well on its way.
The right's continuing attack on the individual's ability to think creatively and critically is their most potent weapon in controlling and perhaps inevitably destroying American democracy.
I used to think that the right wing religious fanaticism was the dying gasp of a failing mythology. Who would have guessed that they would be able to raise the money to buy off America?
Sucks to be an American in 2011.

For sure you have identified the problem(s)!! And the scams--scamers!! Incidentally, these truths are mainstream, and people know that they are being crapped on. Yet, because of this countries insoluble resolve to keep the people of color (African Americans--and others), the poor and powerless in there place, keeping their foot on the vast majority of folks neck, has become second nature. This nation and the corporations you've enlisted live for what violence can do. If maintaining control entails killing a nation or small group of people, its a done deal. I hope the new revolutionary spirit does take hold---a revolutionary spirit that strives for world peace, justice, good health, prosperity, equal opportunity, no dictatorship, liberation, and happiness at all levels, irrespective of social status.
Its easy think that we are not stupid, but contrary to popular belief--we say, do, endorse, and not make a lot of poised and positive decisions, that make me think----they are stupid, we are stupid, and I am stupid for not doing the right thing, making the right decision(s), early on in life. In short, we do a lot of stupid things. Allowing heartless, bigoted, prejudice, hypocrites, and pseudo intellect govern/dictate/control our live is stupid. All the illusions you cited in your observations, a third grader could comprehend.

We Americans do stupid things. We say stupid things. We believe stupid things. We follow stupid ideas. But I see a greater potential. We are mislead, but fundamentally not stupid. Not even close. Let's tell the truth. We have not even begun to have a brush with our potential just yet. But I see it. Don't you?
Peace,
Eric

On the flag you forgot HP and UPS.. they are both on the European Union Board of Directors and manipulating our country at the same time of partially taking care of it and hurting us at the same time like the emblems you have on the truth of America flag... i knew it before Obama was elected that the super rich staged that financial meltdown in the summer of 2008.. July through September I believe. They knew they were setting more in motion the New World Order agenda on the back of the one dollar bill, but 99.9 % of American doesn't understand it or get it...
thanks for being conscious Eric, ( i attached a .jpg and .gif of the flag image you posted with ups and hp on it)

You are right, in the grandeur of our minds we are not stupid. Here, I am reminded of the nutty professor---he/she has umpteen Ph.d's, with no common sense. Its one thing to claim understanding, skill, or knowledge. However, it's another story to claim these attributes and not be able to produce, demonstrate, and or apply that which is being professed. At this point this seems to be the story of our/this nation. Who is the Declaration of Independence written to? Does all Americans (children) have equal opportunity? Is justice and freedom for the rich/wealth and not the poor/lower class. Did the creator make this sort of distiction? The truth is, yes we have the potential for much, and can do much, but I guess it comes down talk is cheap. Maybe more of the right people need to suffer---a red flag of such may precipitate the waving of the white flag. I bear to differ, the issue has very little to do with mankind reaching his potential---I believe we have (of course not the pinnacle). This societies critical issues stem from man's set intent to exploit, control, and oppress people not as powerful----we are predators. Unfortunately, this isn't good for the moral fiber of the nation(s). Someone is going to get hurt---someone is going to strike back and the damage is going to be far greater than any 911 you can imagine. Can you see the war on the poor, cant you see the powerful and wealthy grinding their feet on the vast majority of Americans neck. Yes, I see the potential plan as day.

Is "Lord" really your first name? And, although I do agree with many of your surface observations, are you able to see what is going on beneath the surface, behind the cover story?
Peace,
Eric

What would you consider spirituality? Is it a sense of self, or perhaps its a sense of our surroundings? I have no opinion in this, I would just like to hear your answers of what you consider to be spirituality.Continue

Anything a person says about the true intentions of Jesus are pure speculation. He never wrote anything down. NONE of us have any idea what he actually said, what he meant. You can make Jesus into absolutely ANYTHING you want to believe him to be. But that does not make it true. More people have died in his name than any other.…Continue

Up until fairly recently, I went through most of my life thinking about what I thought the world owed me and what I could get from it. Then a transformation began, one which is very much still playing out - evolving, and I experienced something of a shift in perspective.Without giving it much thought, my natural inclination has been to consider what I owe the world and what I can give it - as it has given me everything and always does.…Continue

The newer popular alternatives to religion, that come in the form of new age spirituality such as "The Secret" are just as loony as the promise of heaven for the believer, and a lake of hellfire for the nonbeliever. This ever so intoxicating form of delusion is simply more escapism - a new belief system to impose upon reality, in order to avoid true, honest and courageous self inquiry. In this form of wishful thinking the egoic mind is "meant" to have whatever it visualizes and this gets…Continue

If a book guides you, my feeling is that such a book would not be as reliable a guide as love. Best to follow the heart, even foolishly at times, if one is to be a real human being. My heart tells me that the world is in a desperate state of crisis right now. I feel driven to stand up and do my part to try to lead where I can, and to reduce suffering where I can, and to never lose sight of the reality that it's not really me who is doing any of it. The human experience is but a fraction of who…Continue

The Jewel of Enlightenment is hidden in the lotus. Sure. But it's also hidden in the BMW website and in the faces of all the starving children. The Jewel of Enlightenment is hidden at WalMart and in the heart of your worst enemy. The Jewel of Enlightenment is hidden in every star and in every subatomic particle. The Jewel of Enlightenment is hidden in plain sight. The Jewel of Enlightenment is You.…Continue
