Global One TV: A Blog for Mystics - by Eric Allen Bell
Inward Revolution Creates Outward Revolution
If a book guides you, my feeling is that such a book would not be as reliable a guide as love. Best to follow the heart, even foolishly at times, if one is to be a real human being.
My heart tells me that the world is in a desperate state of crisis right now. I feel driven to stand up and do my part to try to lead where I can, and to reduce suffering where I can, and to never lose sight of the reality that it's not really me who is doing any of it.
The human experience is but a fraction of who and what we are. The only way to truly know this is to find out for yourself. From a conscious state it is self evident that nothing needs to be done. Harmony and chaos are the same things, only called by different names, depending on where one is standing when it all goes down. Creation and destruction are the same thing.
It our is human heart that makes us care. Many new agers have told me that I should tune the world out, be somehow above it all, see it only as an illusion. I find the proposition to be heartless.
In fact, the world is real and unreal simultaneously. In fact there is no separation between the spiritual and material worlds. Religion is an attempt to organize all of this and in the process the essential truth is lost.
See the thread of truth that runs through the story, sometimes visibly and sometimes invisibly. This is not "belief". This is what is meant by "direct perception".

Permalink Reply by Alexi on October 26, 2011 at 1:26pm Love, love, love this post. The thing is, I still want to re-write this sentence:
"Religion is an attempt to organize all of this and in the process the essential truth is lost"
Religion is a set of beliefs that are taught, and at it's root is simply faith in "something higher". In trying to navigate the (often hypocritical/political/destructive) man-made set of rules & regulations + hierarchy inappropriately assigned to that religion that the essential truth is lost. Religion is not the obstacle, it's the misappropriation of religion for greed/subjugation/political agendas that is the obstacle. Religion is generically faith there is "something other".
IMHO, this blog is so spot on except for that one sentence, e.g. I try to "see the thread of truth that runs through", and is common to, all religions. Dismissing religion altogether seems counter-intuitive to understanding there is actually no separation from the spiritual and material worlds, as for me, this is probably the #1 most common thread repeated in popular religions.
I don't want to turn the blog comments into a debate about religion - instead, I'd love it if you would elaborate on what you mean by "belief" vs. "direct perception"
Permalink Reply by Eric Allen Bell on October 26, 2011 at 3:34pm Alexi - If somebody tells me that you are in the room with me, I might choose to "believe" them, especially if they repeat it enough times.
However, if I can see you directly, or hear you, or feel your presence, then that is what is meant by "direct perception".
Does that answer your question?
Peace :)

Permalink Reply by Alexi on October 26, 2011 at 11:26pm Yes, thank you. Attunement (for me) is the key to direct perception. Recently I have taken a liking to abandoning all that I believe (e.g., things I was taught) and instead, focusing on what I feel, breath, touch, sense, experience, learn "in the now", and have "always known". If I were to describe the "sensory" experience of that approach, it would be hard to put into words - it feels like the picture you attached to this blog - one of the reasons I loved it it ; )

A civilization is just a social hierarchy and it is, as always, run by social networks. The social networks (teams) have changed and we have a much better way of selecting the members of each team.

What would you consider spirituality? Is it a sense of self, or perhaps its a sense of our surroundings? I have no opinion in this, I would just like to hear your answers of what you consider to be spirituality.Continue

Anything a person says about the true intentions of Jesus are pure speculation. He never wrote anything down. NONE of us have any idea what he actually said, what he meant. You can make Jesus into absolutely ANYTHING you want to believe him to be. But that does not make it true. More people have died in his name than any other.…Continue

Up until fairly recently, I went through most of my life thinking about what I thought the world owed me and what I could get from it. Then a transformation began, one which is very much still playing out - evolving, and I experienced something of a shift in perspective.Without giving it much thought, my natural inclination has been to consider what I owe the world and what I can give it - as it has given me everything and always does.…Continue

The newer popular alternatives to religion, that come in the form of new age spirituality such as "The Secret" are just as loony as the promise of heaven for the believer, and a lake of hellfire for the nonbeliever. This ever so intoxicating form of delusion is simply more escapism - a new belief system to impose upon reality, in order to avoid true, honest and courageous self inquiry. In this form of wishful thinking the egoic mind is "meant" to have whatever it visualizes and this gets…Continue

The Jewel of Enlightenment is hidden in the lotus. Sure. But it's also hidden in the BMW website and in the faces of all the starving children. The Jewel of Enlightenment is hidden at WalMart and in the heart of your worst enemy. The Jewel of Enlightenment is hidden in every star and in every subatomic particle. The Jewel of Enlightenment is hidden in plain sight. The Jewel of Enlightenment is You.…Continue
