Meditations on Ego and Enlightenment - by Eric Allen Bell

Over a long enough period of time, the survival rate for your body is zero.  Contained within the body is the brain and one of the functions of the brain is the ego.  The ego is the self concept of the brain-body organism and it does not like what was just said one bit.

And there are different states of consciousness than just ego.  The ego is like a dog you bring with you on a journey. Untrained, it will run off, bite others and come back to bite you.  But trained and disciplined it knows its place. It can sense things, warn you of danger, protect you.  As the saying goes, "Ego is an excellent servant and a horrible master".  …

Atman is Brahman - by Eric Allen Bell

If you consider yourself to be on any kind of spiritual path, you very likely have had a tendency to be too hard on yourself.  You try not to think negative thoughts, to avoid judging others, to avoid "sin".  One definition of the word "sin" is "separation from God".  We want to avoid our dark side and become more of "how we are supposed to be".  This way of thinking occurs probably not as the result of religion, but religion has sprouted as the result of…

What is the True Meaning of Yoga? - by Eric Allen Bell

With each passing day, as I look inward and as I take in what is going on with the world outside, my heart opens. And the more it opens the more I understand why I have kept it shut for so long. The more my heart opens, the more I understand why the world has closed its heart.

I find it harder and harder to criticize the world from a place of anger or disappointment. The screwed up world and the screwed up self are not only reflections of each other, they are one in the same. I am the suffering and the beauty and everything in between - not as some new philosophy but as a felt experience, moment by…

The Maturation of the Soul - by Eric Allen Bell

The nature of consciousness is that it evolves.  Everything is comprised of consciousness.  Non-local consciousness is the ground of all being.  You are an expression of the infinite consciousness that knows no boundaries.  That which looks out through your eyes, that which seems like individual consciousness, evolves.  It was evolving before it put on the garment of the body you presently inhabit.  It evolves in this lifetime.  It continues to evolve after the consciousness has left the body.  There is no beginning or end to you.

So what is the nature of where we find ourselves, located in time and space?  What is this place?  It is a story, both real and unreal.  Evolution occurs in response to crisis.  And from the moment you enter this domain, crying, hungry and helpless, the crisis has begun.  And thus so too has the soul begun a new stage in its…

Nothing is Lost When a Candle Burns

The human brain is an organ in the body.  The brain creates the ego.  The ego thinks it is you.  The ego fears its dissolution and seeks to continue.  Therefore, throughout history, the egoic mind has created stories about what happens to this (false sense of) self when the body dies, and religion is born.  Religion is often one big ego imposing control over numerous smaller egos.  If you are on an authentic spiritual journey, much of the time the religious establishment will point you in the direction away from what you are actually seeking.

The hysterical aspect of the egoic mind that wants to know what will happen to it after…

Who Am I? - by Eric Allen Bell

By Eric Allen Bell

When it comes to the subject of Enlightenment I am no authority. I do not possess special knowledge nor do I profess to speak to you now from some elevated state. On all matters Divine there is but one authority and that is The Great Mystery.

Enlightenment is often said to be a state of conscious communion with Divine Source.

According to some spiritual traditions this state is something of a finish line. One's existence is seen to be a cycle of birth, death and rebirth as one's soul…

The Pathless Path of the Mystic

There is a parable about a man who goes searching for the moon. He at last finds a finger, which is pointing up at the moon, and he sucks on that finger for comfort.

But he never looks in the direction that finger is pointing.

Such is the nature of religious belief.

To look directly at the moon however is the nature of direct perception.

Cultivating direct perception is the pathless path of the Mystic.…

Meditation on Being - by Eric Allen Bell

"Meditation on Being"

By Eric Allen Bell

Being is what you are. Nothing you do will make you more or less than that.

Whether you are a criminal or a saint, your state of Being is unchanged and eternal.

Only the awareness changes.

Nothing you do in the world will change your state of Being.

Whether you are a good spouse, devoutly religious, a high achiever or a dope fiend - there is nothing to be done to make you better or worse at the level of Being.

Building temples does not bring about salvation when…

Hello Eric, and thanks for the Friend add; it's nice to meet you after all these years.  I much admire the work you do.  I have a blog you might check out sometime, that's more selfish, concerned with my odd circumstances and a novel I recently completed (it will never be finished) that was inspired by an enlightening experience I had 6 years ago after the deaths of my then-extant family members, the loss of my job, home, and possessions, and the bottom generally falling out of my life.  Until you have lost everything, you cannot gain anything.  Anyway, thank you again, and the link to my site is here below.

Hello Eric, thanks for adding me. So pleased to see your a spiritual man. Spirituality have been kidnapped by the male dominant, established religions, mainly in our days the Abrahamic religions, but not only them. Returning to spirituality as a true path for a human, without a feeling of being odd or having guilt for it, but to be meet by appreciation and respect might be a future we will see.

I have run across a genius who has uncorked more of the universe's natural spiritual laws than anything else I've ever tried (my previous favorites were Yogananda and Hindu raja yoga but these techniques take forever and are hit and miss).  These technique simply work, relatively quickly, every time if done exactly, similar to chemistry and physics laws in the physical universe to take you out the top.

Become Fixated on Awareness Itself

"One meditation method would be

to become completely enamored

you let your attention

rest fully in that.
