Inward Revolution Creates Outward Revolution

2012: You Were Only Waiting for this Moment to Arrive

Bhagavad Gita

In the book, The Bhagavad Gita, two characters gaze down at a battlefield from the perspective of a mountaintop, just before the battle begins. One of the two characters, Arjuna, is a master archer. He finds himself struggling as he knows he has a duty to fulfill on the battlefield, but at the same time he recognizes that this battlefield, everything about it is sort of insane. As it turns out, the other character on this hill with him, his charioteer - Krishna - turns out to be God ( aka Arjuna's higher self) and a long dialogue ensues between them.

In this story the battlefield is a metaphor for the world and the the mountaintop is that place in which one is able to access a clear and illuminated quality of perception. To anyone who has not read this book, I could not possibly recommend it more highly as this is in fact the predicament we find ourselves in now.

There is something in the world that calls us to action. And it's hard to make sense of what actions we are to take. And there is often the temptation to remain on the mountaintop, detached, allowing the world to fend for itself while we enjoy a life of quiet fulfillment and the pursuit of some kind of inner bliss.

But as Krishna points out to Arjuna, everything on the battlefield exists and is playing out within the illusion of time and space. The battle is about to happen, but the battle is also already happening and the battle has already happened. The illusion of time stretches this out into mental constructs that the egoic mind uses to distance itself from seeing things as they are.

So what is Arjuna to do? He has told Krishna that he would prefer to stay on the mountaintop with him and turn away from his duties. Sooner or later we are all Arjuna, and his crisis is our crisis. That is self evident. What is so often harder to remember is that we are all Krishna. As we enter the battlefield which is our life as a person in the world, we can also simultaneously be on the mountaintop in a state of illumination with Krishna. This is what it means to be in the world but not of the world. This is what it means to wake up inside the story.

There is work to be done in 2012 - and to the extent that you imagine yourself to be a person, this work is very real and our challenges are great. But to the extent that one can remember your true nature, which is in fact Divine, nothing in the world can harm you. Your life is a creative act, an act of service and every word you speak, every action, every thought, every breath you take is all a part of one continuous lifelong prayer.

We are on the battlefield and we are on the mountaintop at the same time. Don't let the world get you down. It's just one big passion play - a psycho drama designed for your awakening. I awaken and you awaken and we awaken a world that has has lost its way, a world that is merely a projection, a reflection of our own state of Being. As we enter 2012, let there be peace on Earth and let it begin with me.

Namaste ॐ

There is no part of the world that is not the spiritual world.

"I" wont pretend to know "your" unique situation enough to make a sure-fire comment touching on everything "you" have just addressed, but perhaps spirituality simply is "your" domain and that "you" are both detached from the world but a part of it.. just simply in "your" speciality in the topics of spirituality?

I have been doing this battle a lot lately! My sister has been trying to get me to be part of her other sites but I seem to have this big block. The politics are just something I have never been able to wrap my mind around. In fact I wrote her yesterday apologizing for not being able to "add my 2 cents" but I just feel so detatched from politics, the medical profession and just about anything to do with this M.E.S.T. world.

Now put something Spiritual in front of me and words just flow. I told her that perhaps it was true that I am just in this world but not of it.

I believe I have chosen to just stay on the mountain top. Is this wrong? I don't know. I just know that this is where I feel I AM.

What is Spirtuality? 15 Replies

What would you consider spirituality? Is it a sense of self, or perhaps its a sense of our surroundings? I have no opinion in this, I would just like to hear your answers of what you consider to be spirituality.Continue

Your Own Personal Jesus 74 Replies

Anything a person says about the true intentions of Jesus are pure speculation. He never wrote anything down. NONE of us have any idea what he actually said, what he meant. You can make Jesus into absolutely ANYTHING you want to believe him to be. But that does not make it true. More people have died in his name than any other.…Continue

Inside of All Things There Is a Stillness 2 Replies

Up until fairly recently, I went through most of my life thinking about what I thought the world owed me and what I could get from it. Then a transformation began, one which is very much still playing out - evolving, and I experienced something of a shift in perspective.Without giving it much thought, my natural inclination has been to consider what I owe the world and what I can give it - as it has given me everything and always does.…Continue

Wishful Thinking: A Cheap Alternative to Inquiry 37 Replies

The newer popular alternatives to religion, that come in the form of new age spirituality such as "The Secret" are just as loony as the promise of heaven for the believer, and a lake of hellfire for the nonbeliever. This ever so intoxicating form of delusion is simply more escapism - a new belief system to impose upon reality, in order to avoid true, honest and courageous self inquiry. In this form of wishful thinking the egoic mind is "meant" to have whatever it visualizes and this gets…Continue

The Head, the Heart and What it Means to See 16 Replies

If a book guides you, my feeling is that such a book would not be as reliable a guide as love. Best to follow the heart, even foolishly at times, if one is to be a real human being. My heart tells me that the world is in a desperate state of crisis right now. I feel driven to stand up and do my part to try to lead where I can, and to reduce suffering where I can, and to never lose sight of the reality that it's not really me who is doing any of it. The human experience is but a fraction of who…Continue
