Experiencing My Father’s Impending Transition

As I write this, my 93 yr old father is in the midst of moving through his transition. My husband and I are getting ready to go on a road trip to Denver so that I can say my last goodbye. I have had years of spiritual training, yet I still feel loss, pain of a worldly father who remarried when I was a young woman and began a new life with a new family that rarely included me. My ego certainly wonders how he could do that. For years I was angry, perhaps furious would be more accurate. Fortunately, with divine help from Spirit and my wonderful teachers, I have moved beyond that anger, but the pain of the psychological loss of my father many years ago and now the physical loss of him is still there to be tapped at times when I least expect it, a conversation, a piece of music, etc.

Today, in my meditation, I asked Mother/Father God to please support with healing light, all of his children, step children and biological children, who must finally say goodbye to his physical form. My higher Self observed my small self, the self that feels a daughter’s pain, sitting in her meditation chair saying the prayer and asked that she be included in this light and Love. It felt good to know I was included. I found this prayer that was sent to me by a friend who also recently dealt with the transition of her 93 yr old father. It is from Saint Theresa and it goes like this:

May today there be peace within.

May you trust God that you are exactly where you are meant to be.

May you not forget the infinite possibilities that are born of faith.

May you use those gifts that you have received and pass on the love that as been given to you.

May you be content to know you are a child of God

Let this Presence settle into your bones, and allow your soul the freedom to sing, dance, and praise and love.

It is there for each and every one of us.
